AMB. AMUGE OTENGO REBECCA PRESENTED HER LETTERS OF CREDENCE TO THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE AFRICAN UNION COMMISSION MR. MOUSSA FAKI ON WEDNESDAY, 8 NOVEMBER 2017

Amb. Rebecca Amuge Otengo, presented her Letters of Credence to H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the AU Commission at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa today afternoon, 8 November 2017. Amb. Otengo, who is also Uganda’s representative to Ethiopia, Djibouti, IGAD and UNECA, was accompanied by Mr. Aryabaha Evans, Counsellor at the Uganda Embassy, Addis Ababa.
The Ambassador expressed her appreciation for Mr. Moussa Faki’s personal commitment to the implementation of the African Union Agenda 2063 to transform the continent into the “Africa we want.” She further underscored the on-going African Union Institutional Reform aimed at greater effectiveness and efficiency of the Union in the pursuit of  Africa’s common interests.
Amb. Amuge Otengo noted with gratitude that Mr. Moussa Faki is a friend of Uganda who appointed Amb. Rosette Katungi as his Technical Advisor on Regional Integration - which is central to the implementation of Agenda 2063. She also noted the African Union assigned H.E. President Yoweri Museveni as Champion for Africa’s Political Integration which is a cornerstone for Africa’s unity, cohesion, stability and prosperity.
The Ambassador expressed her readiness to consolidate the good working relationship between the Commission, the Embassy in Addis Ababa and Uganda, manifested in the various meetings the Commission holds in Kampala - a mutually beneficial undertaking that  brings the Union closer to Ugandans.
On his part, H.E. Moussa Faki congratulated Amb. Amuge Otengo upon being assigned to cover the African Union which the Premier body mandated to advance Africa’s interests. He hailed the cordial relationship between his country Chad and Uganda as well as between him and the political leadership in Kampala as manifested through their regular consultations on matters of regional and continental interests.
H.E. Moussa Faki underscored the significant role and sacrifices made by Uganda in matters of regional peace and security in Somalia, South Sudan and Central Africa, among others. He noted with appreciation that H.E. President Yoweri Museveni has been and remains very instrumental in promoting African’s common interests regionally and internationally in diverse fora.
The AU Commission Chairperson expressed his willingness, and that of his team at the AU Headquarters, to work closely with Amb. Amuge Otengo and Uganda in implementing AU Reforms, promoting regional and continental integration as well as the pursuit of peace, security and stability in furtherance of growth, prosperity and transformation and Africa.
