The 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Commences in Addis Ababa.

Hon. Philemon Mateeke, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation at the opening of the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
The 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union commenced on 21st January 2016 at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. Ministry of Foreign Affairs is being represented by Hon. Philemon Mateeke, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Cooperation, the Permanent Secretary, Amb. James Mugume and the Director for Regional Cooperation, Amb. Rosette Nyirinkindi Katungye.

Uganda has again been elected to the Peace and Security Council by a majority Vote of 43 members for the next two years. This is an indication of regional satisfaction with Uganda's peace and security role in the region.

The Vice President of Uganda, Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has arrived in Addis Ababa to represent the Head of State at the Summit.
